From IronPython Cookbook

Silverlight is a browser plugin for animation and rich-application development. This was previously known as WPF/E: Windows Presentation Foundation Everywhere. WPF is the user interface framework that is part of .NET 3.

It ships with a cut-down (and secure) version of the CLR called the core-CLR. The version of the core-CLR that comes with Silverlight 2 is capable of hosting the DLR, meaning that DLR languages like IronPython can run in the browser.

Silverlight runs on Windows and the Apple Mac. There is a fledgling implementation of Silverlight for Mono underway, called Moonlight. This should be capable of running on all the platforms supported by Mono.
